Marriage License Requirements


Have questions about marriage license requirements in Savannah? Here is a list of requirements for Chatham County. We hope this information is helpful.

Blood tests are not required to obtain a marriage license in Georgia.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old to apply without parental consent.

Applicants must present some form of identification. This can be one of the following: Driver's License, certified copy of a birth certificate, military I.D., passport or a state I.D. card. Social Security cards, insurance cards, credit cards, employment or student I.D. cards are not acceptable.

If divorced within the past six months, applicants must bring a certified copy of the Judgement and Decree with the Judge's signature on the order.

Both applicants must be present at the same time in order to apply for the Marriage License.

The fee for the marriage license is $51 as of November 2007. You will need the exact amount in cash or personal check. Bring a self-addressed stamped envelope to request a recorded copy by mail.

There is no waiting period in Georgia. You will receive your license at the time you apply. The license is good indefinitely.

Marriage licenses are issued between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday) in the Probate Court of Chatham County, 133 Montgomery Street, Room 509, Savannah, GA 31401. Telephone - 912.652.7267.
